Never wonder when you last changed the tank water
Stick an NFC tag on your aquarium stand. Tap it to see when the last water change, filter clean or water test was done, and get reminded when the next one's due.
The problem isn't knowing what to do
- Standing at the tank trying to remember whether the water change was last weekend or the one before.
- Two people in the house, and the fish get fed twice, or not at all.
- Filter cleans and water tests quietly slipping for months.
- A maintenance schedule that lives in a notes app nobody opens.
The answer is on the tank
Tap the tag and see "Water change: last done 6 days ago" before you even pick up the bucket.
Schedules that match your routine
Weekly water changes counted from when you actually did them, daily feeding, monthly filter cleans: each on its own tag or all from one.
One reminder, only when it's due
An end-of-day summary lists what's still outstanding. Done everything? You won't hear from us.
A log of your water tests
With Pro, add a note like "Nitrate 20ppm" when you complete a test, and build up a history you can look back on.
What to tag, and how often
A typical freshwater routine as a starting point. Every tank is different, so adjust it to your fish, plants and filter.
| Task | Repeats | Where the tag goes |
|---|---|---|
| Feed the fish | Daily (add a time if feeding is at set times) | On the fish food tub |
| Check temperature and equipment | Daily | On the side of the stand |
| Partial water change | Weekly, counted from when it's done | On the water-change bucket |
| Test water (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH) | Weekly | On the test-kit box |
| Clean the glass | Weekly | On the algae scraper handle |
| Rinse filter media | Monthly, counted from when it's done | On the external filter, or the stand next to it |
| Trim plants | Every 2 weeks | Next to the planting tools |
Why a tag on the tank works
Tank maintenance happens at the tank, not at your phone's home screen. Putting a tag where the job happens means the question "when did we last do this?" gets answered at the exact moment you're wondering. It takes one tap, without digging through an app.
Water changes that don't drift
Set water changes to "every week, counted from when it's done". If a busy week pushes one back a few days, the next one moves with it instead of piling up as overdue. Prefer a fixed day, like every Sunday? Switch the toggle off and it stays on schedule.
No more double feeding
When more than one person looks after the fish, share the tank's tasks with your household (Pro) and tag the food. A quick tap shows "fed 2 hours ago", so nobody feeds them again just in case.
Filter care
Many fishkeepers rinse filter media in water taken out during a water change rather than under the tap, to protect the beneficial bacteria. Whatever your routine, a tag on the filter means you'll know exactly how long it's been.
Questions
Do NFC tags work near an aquarium?
Yes. Tags are sealed stickers, so put them on the stand, cabinet door, lid or test-kit box rather than in the water. Avoid sticking standard tags directly onto metal; use 'on-metal' tags there.
How often should I change my aquarium water?
Many freshwater keepers change 10–25% weekly or fortnightly, but it depends on your tank size, stocking and filtration, so follow your fish shop's advice. TapComplete lets you set whatever schedule suits your tank.
Can I track more than one tank?
Yes. Give each tank its own tags. With Pro you can group tasks, for example 'Living room tank' and 'Shrimp tank', so each tank's jobs show together.
Can I log my water test results?
With Pro you can add a note when you complete a task, like 'Nitrate 20ppm, pH 7.2', and it's saved in that task's history.
Can the rest of the household use it too?
Yes, with Pro. Invite up to 5 people; each uses the app on their own phone, and everyone sees the same tasks, who did them, and gets reminded.
